Paid Subscription

For years, I’ve kept this blog going simply because I love sharing what I create and write about. I’ve kept it ad-free (because I loathe ads) and accessible to everyone. But the truth is, running this blog comes with real, ongoing costs — and those are starting to pile up in a way I can no longer absorb. I will never put ads on my blog but I do need to find a way to monetize my work.

Just this week, I learned I’ll need to pay $750 a year to keep using Browzwear — the software that powers all the 3D garments I create. On top of that, my position at the University is being reduced due to major funding cuts, and it’s unclear whether I or my colleagues will even have jobs in the coming months. Research is being paused or shut down across the board, and it’s leaving me with a lot of uncertainty.

If I do lose my job, I’ll also have to buy my own computer and cover the cost of essential tools like Adobe or other design software — just to keep creating. And honestly, I’m not sure how much of this blog I’ll realistically be able to maintain if that happens.

For now, here’s what the blog currently costs me:

  • $84 every 2 years to keep it ad-free (about $3.50/month — next due in April 2026)
  • $24 every 2 years for custom CSS styling ($2 / month — next due October 2025)
  • $72/year for Google Workspace (going up to $84/year this July)
  • $83.96 every 2 years for domain renewal (due this May)

To help cover these costs and keep this blog sustainable, I’ll be introducing a paid subscription for accessing posts that are more than 3 months old. This will roll out gradually over the next few weeks. New posts will remain free when published, but older content will require a subscription.

Here’s the pricing:

  • $2.99/month
  • $29.99/year (save 16%)

If my blog has brought you insight, inspiration, or even a little joy — I’d love your support. Subscribing helps me keep it all going. And just to be transparent, the 3-month limit access and pricing may change down the line depending on how things evolve. You can subscribe below.

Thanks, truly, for reading — and for sticking with me.

One more thing — my Drapeline ebook and the blog posts that go with it will always be free. No subscription, no paywall, in accordance with the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. That won’t change.

IF YOU FOUND THIS POST HELPFUL, CONSIDER SUPPORTING MY WORK BY SIGNING UP FOR A PAID SUBSCRIPTION.

POSTS OLDER THAN 3 MONTHS ARE NOW FOR SUBSCRIBERS ONLY — YOUR SUPPORT KEEPS THIS SPACE GOING.

Cancel anytime. Instant access.

  3. Hello. I’m in favor of paid subscription. What you publish represents such an enormous amount of work that it seems amply justified. I hope you’ll be able to continue your publications, which have enlightened me greatly, particularly on the construction of pants. Thank you so much.
