2023 October Recap

Another month has gone by! We weren’t planning on moving this month, but our landlord decided at the last minute to not renew our lease because he wants to sell the place instead. I’m still at a loss for why you would want to sell a home that’s completely paid off and earning you money? Our landlord was really skirting the law by not giving us 30 days, but he did offer to let us stay 1 or 2 months while he gets the place ready to sell. I wasn’t thrilled about paying our landlord any more money and having the disruption of people coming to our place whenever, primarily since I work from home. Therefore, I tried very hard to move as quickly as possible. Moving was also a great distraction for the mind after losing a family member to cancer at the end of September. However much we’ve moved, I still really hate it. This is the 9th place we’ve lived since the reality of graduate school, and research means you have to be willing to move a lot. Luckily, we were able to find a new home quickly and move out of our old place by the end of October. My sewing and knitting stuff was boxed up for most of the month, but I made Ryan a fabulous tote I posted about previously. Here’s my October recap:

This year, I have finished 42 projects, with a monthly average of 4.2 projects. When I was packing up our clothes, I was reminded how incredible it is that more than 95% of what we wear is handmade. How cool is that?

The big fabric purchase this month was on 22 momme silk. Ryan sleeps on silk pillowcases to help prevent hair breakage, and his pillowcases are wearing thin. Instead of buying silk pillowcases, I’m going to try and make my own. I’ve spent $2723.37 for the year, with a monthly average of $272.34.

Before we had to move, I spent 10 hours and 55 minutes crafting. The tote bag I made Ryan only took 2 hours across a single day. I didn’t create a graph of this since it was so paltry.

My silk fabric is still in transit and hasn’t arrived, so I can do nothing until it shows up. I have a pair of slacks I need to make myself with fabric sitting in my stash. And I’m still just knitting socks at the moment, but I should be able to start a sweater for Ryan soon. My focus right now is on things that HAVE to get done, and everything else (i.e., posts on Instagram, fun/creative projects, etc.) will have to continue to wait. As always, thanks for following along!
